Description

CIATIM-201 is an anti-friction multi-purpose lithium grease developed in the USSR. It is a mixture of low-viscosity petroleum oil, thickener (lithium stearate - lithium soap) and antioxidant additive. Possesses frost-resistant and refractory properties. It is very cheap and therefore widely used for lubrication of lightly loaded friction units in various mechanisms, despite a number of significant disadvantages.
It is a light brown or light yellow ointment. Due to the presence of lithium compounds, it has a low-viscosity consistency and is used in a fairly wide temperature range - from −60 ° С to +90 ° С.
CIATIM-201 grease is produced in accordance with GOST 6267-74 and is used to lubricate friction units, in aviation mechanisms (the widest scope of application), automotive and other ground equipment, radio equipment, electromechanical and precision instruments operating with minimal resistance at low temperatures. Not applicable for sleeve bearings due to thickening over time. It is not recommended to use it at high loads. Owing to the retention of lubricating properties at low temperatures, the grease is widely used in the mechanisms of equipment operated in the Far North.
This lubricant, according to some users [source not specified 1005 days], is the most convenient for lubricating rubbing parts and mechanisms of hunting rifles: barrels, locks, sliding surfaces, and trigger mechanisms.
The presence of an antioxidant in the lubricant explains its chemical stability. The colloidal stability of CIATIM-201 is low: during long-term storage, liquid oil is released from the lubricant, which adversely affects its operational properties.
At the moment, CIATIM-201 grease does not fully meet modern requirements. The reasons are the low maximum temperature of use and its insufficient mechanical stability. In addition, the disadvantages of this lubricant include the destruction of the lubricant composition under mechanical stress and, as a result, a decrease in its viscosity and ultimate strength. Due to its soft consistency and insufficient degree of stickiness, it is possible to mechanically wash it off from open surfaces. Separation of the lubricant into fractions is observed during long-term storage both in containers and during idle time without movement of the lubricated units and assemblies
